Western Digital has introduced WD ShareSpace a disk system with a network connection. The data storage are now available with 2 and 4 TB of storage capacity. With a suggested retail price of 599 € or 999 € for the small to the large version of the product is aimed primarily at home users and small businesses.
Over Gigabit Ethernet, users with up to 1000 Mbit / s access to their data. The ShareSpace system supports RAID 0 (striped), 1 (mirrored) and 5 The latter variant is, however, the version with 4 terabytes reserved, since all four available drive bays must be populated.

The included software allows MioNet data access via the Internet, WD Anywhere Backup automatically backs up over the network. An early warning system also informs the user via e-mail whenever a problem occurs with one of the disks. The Download Manager supports scheduled downloads through FTP and HTTP. An FTP server has integrated the manufacturer. Rather is aimed at private users, the iTunes server function: Each computer on the network with iTunes, it can access the music collection. The pre-configured for Windows Vista, Network Attached Storage System also provides Microsoft Active Directory support.
