In the next two weeks, Google rolled out a client update to the Android Market (Image: Google).

Google has announced new features for the Android Market. A new client software will be rolled out over the next two weeks. It is then available for devices with the operating system version 1.6 or higher.

With the new version of the client to shorten the conversion period for apps from 24 hours to 15 minutes. “Most customers within a few minutes to ask for a refund,” writes Eric Chu, Android developers in a blog entry. A shorter period create more transparency for buyers. Developers to simplify the management of their apps.

The update also integrates the end of November presented age ratings for apps. Developers need from 15 December their applications in a category “All”, “Children,” “teenager” and “adult” sort. Programs or games with no rating shall be automatically classified as “adult content”.

Another change is the user interface: Home Category overview and now include a so-called “carousel”, the user can scroll through a selection of recommended apps. In addition, the overview page of the individual apps now also offers suggestions for similar applications, which should improve the search for the right software.

Also new are categories for widgets and wallpapers. Applications that include such elements are automatically sorted according to Chu. Other product groups for popular games and applications will follow.

Google has also increased the maximum file size for installation packages. The company can now to APK-files up to 50MB. This should enable the development of larger games. Previously the limit was 25 megabytes.
