“The installation program of the Energizer Duo software UsbCharger.dll placed the file in the application directory and Arucer.dll system32 directory in the Windows system,” said US-CERT. “Arucer.dll is a backdoor that allows unauthorized remote access by allowing incoming connections on TCP port 7777. Her ability is to list directories, to send and receive files and run programs.”
Energizer announces that it could not imagine how the Trojans came into the program. “Energizer has discontinued the sale of this product and the download site for the software from the network can be taken,” it said in a news release. “We are now working with both the US-CERT, as well as with government authorities to identify them, how the code could get into the software.”
