With the I-Gate-called wireless LAN (Local Area Network) allows up to ten PCs and / or notebooks wirelessly networked with each other, through a distance of 50 to 300 meters, the manufacturer claims.
The data transfer rate between the connected devices is two Mbit / s. With an ISDN connection, you can surf wirelessly with I-Gate on the Internet or use other ISDN services. The system was developed in collaboration with the router specialist Elsa.
I-Gate consists of two components: the base port and its counterpart, the Port Mobil, the base port is the interface to the outside world and is connected to the ISDN socket. About the same ISDN channel sends and receives data from the LAN-connected PCs and assumes the coordination of Internet access. The mobile port sends and receives data and LAN also serves as a terminal within the LAN.
According to Siemens, I-Gate offers the same networking capabilities as a conventional Ethernet LAN for PCs. At CeBIT, are first presented prototype, the first devices to summer in Germany, Austria and Switzerland come to market.
