Security hole in Apple’s browser allows drive-by downloads

SicherheitsspezialistSecunia warns of zero-day vulnerability in Safari. This affects the version 4.0.5 of Apple’s browser on Windows. The vulnerability makes it possible to spread malware via drive-by downloads.

According to a warning message is an error in dealing with pop-up windows. To exploit the vulnerability, it must be merely a victim tricked into visiting a malicious Web site. Is an open from this Web site pop-up window is closed, any malicious code can be injected and executed. The error only occurs, however, when pop-ups are allowed.

According to the Danish security company possibly other versions of the browser are affected by the vulnerability. Apple has released Safari 4.0.5 in mid-March, up 16 vulnerabilities in Safari for Mac OS X and Windows to fix and improve the performance of the browser.
