Samsung has completed development of an internal memory module of moviNAND series with 8 GB capacity. The Flash component to be installed in mobile devices like cell phones or PDAs. It offers twice as much space as previous embedded flash memory. Also doubles the data throughput was 52 MB per second can be processed.

Last summer, the company had presented an MMC card with 8 GB of storage – now provides the company after the embedded version. The memory module of moviNAND series features four 16-gigabit memory chips, which were manufactured in 50-nanometer technology. Compared to conventional flash devices, according to the current module manufacturers around ten to 20 percent smaller. In mobile phones, manufacturers can thus provide high integrated storage and forgo the installation of a slot for flash cards. This speeds, according to Samsung’s development time and enables the production of smaller mobile phones.

In addition, a MMC controller and associated firmware are integrated, the memory can thus easily be extended with additional cards. The company currently supplies from the first sample components to partner companies. Mass production has been announced for the second quarter of this year. The moviNAND components are to receive in the coming years, strong importance on the market. The sales volume will increase within the next four years to four billion dollars.
