RIM Blackberry brings free management tool for SMBs

Research In Motion (RIM) has introduced a free management tool for Blackberry smartphones. It is aimed at small and medium enterprises and enables it to manage up to 100 BlackBerrys.

The Blackberry Management Center can be used with any browser and manages smartphones with BlackBerry OS 4.6 or higher. Unlike the fee-based company’s solutions such as Blackberry Enterprise Server Express is supported but not RIM’s own e-mail service. Rather it is intended to manage access to hosted e-mail solutions and web-based services like Gmail, Yahoo Mail or Microsoft’s Hotmail.

“We are pleased to introduce RIM’s latest cloud service that is designed specifically for small businesses,” said Alan Panezic, vice-president is quoted Enterprise Product Management at RIM, in a press release. “Blackberry Management Center is a free service and an effective way to the Blackberry smart phones by employees in the cloud to manage.

Companies using the service do not require dedicated hardware, as it requires a Blackberry Enterprise Server. According to the company and no technical background is required.

All functions can be set up through a browser interface and retrieve. This includes regular backups to prevent loss of data stored on Blackberrys corporate data. In addition, content can be locked on lost devices, or if necessary deleted. This applies to the internal memory and a memory card inserted.

The tool also offers the opportunity to ring a lost Blackberry phone out loud, to determine its location, or a message on the phone display. It can also restore personal settings and content to a replacement device.
