The Smart Lists are now only Facebook members selected for testing. Website developer Nick Starr made via Twitter attention to the feature. It complements the “friends list” that describes Facebook as “a quick way to organize friends to control what information information can be seen in the news feed, and to post updates specifically for certain people.”
Facebook friends lists had been introduced some time ago, but know only a few members and use the function. This can be about close friends, acquaintances and people differ, with whom you want to share any updates.
Smart Lists have icons and summarize Facebook friends about work colleagues, classmates or people who live within a radius of about 100 kilometers of yourself. They have two functions: On one hand, it can control which status updates to see who gets – by selecting a manually created list from the drop-down menu in the lower right corner of the status box. On the other hand, members can use it to filter their news feed.
These innovations are strongly reminiscent of the Circles of Google +. Two months ago, Facebook Hack Circle programmers had developed, which allows to make lists of friends on Facebook as well as circles on Google +. Although it is not an official Facebook product, it shows that the social network is interested in expanding its site to other functions.
