Report: Asus Toshiba wants to take over notebook division

Asus is interested in the notebook division of Japanese electronics giant Toshiba. This was confirmed by CEO Jonney Shih to the Chinese newspaper Commercial Times. The tips of the two companies had already met with initial discussions, a decision had not yet fallen.

Asus wants according to its figures for year 2011 among the three largest laptop maker in the world. This should help especially takeovers.

According to recent figures from Gartner is Toshiba’s share of the global PC market, which includes both desktop computers and notebooks, with five percent. Its share of the laptop market is so small that it is listed there, just under “other producers”. Asus manufactures mobile computers and other hand, mainly located in this area with a five percent market share in fifth place. To replace Dell’s third-largest notebook manufacturer, the company would double its market share.

Hewlett-Packard has defended its position as market leader in the PC market in the third quarter. According to Gartner, the company came to a share of 19.9 percent. Acer increased its market share from June to September to 15.4 percent and was able to overtake Dell.
