NXP Semiconductors and Purple Labs announced the completion of the reference design, Purple Magic, which will form the basis for 3G-phones for less than $ 100.
The attractive price-based phones Purple Magic are rich in functionality. The new reference design includes support for video telephony, video streaming, Internet access via WAP, as well as many other features.
At the heart of Purple Magic – Platform Nexperia System Solution 7210, which the company NXP Semiconductors represented at the conference 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona. The “heart” Nexperia SoC-7210 acts as a chip PNX5221, including core and ARM9-generation, two 16-bit processor DSP. System Virtualization VirtualLogix Real-Time VLX-MH allows you to organize a simultaneous operation of Linux and real time operating system (RTOS, real-time OS), which controls the modem and the processing of speech signals.

Purple Magic provides support GSM, GPRS, EDGE, EDGE MCS1-9, UMTS, Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, NFC, infrared link. Phones based on the new reference design will support a memory card MMC, SD, microSD, USB, OTG technology and running a mobile version of Linux kernel-based Kernel 2.6.16.
According to the source, Purple Magic will present at the Mobile World Congress 2008, which starts in Barcelona on 11 February.
