Oracle has released version 3.3 of its fee-based open-source office suite StarOffice. At the same time, the company introduced a variant of the cloud.
StarOffice 3.3 is available in two versions. Home users and small businesses pay 39 euros for the standard package. The Enterprise Edition, which costs € 71 per license, is aimed at medium and large businesses and can only be acquired under a volume contract with a minimum of 100 licenses. They can be used on any operating system. The Standard version intended for home users, however, is limited to one license per OS.
The web-based Oracle Cloud Office will integrate seamlessly into StarOffice. The software runs directly in the browser and can also be used with mobile devices. Even the cloud version of Office suite is available in different versions: The Professional Edition allows you to install on their own servers, as an on-demand service takes over the hosting of Oracle. In addition, there should be a separate version for service providers. Oracle prices were not disclosed.
Version 3.3 of the free OpenOffice OpenOffice.org community is currently only a release candidate available. The project is to remain, despite the departure of leading programmers still exist.
The Document Foundation (TDF), the official offshoot of OpenOffice, meanwhile, has released the first Release Candidate of LibreOffice 3.3.
