Nvidia has launched the GeForce GTX 470 and GTX models 480 with its first graphics card with DirectX 11 support on the market. They are based on Nvidia’s Fermi architecture, which combines three billion transistors and 512 shader units in one chip.

The graphics cards support PCI-Express 2.0, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 3.2, DirectCompute, the physics engine PhysX and NVIDIA CUDA technology. With the latter, developers can take advantage of parallel computing power of graphics cards and perform complex visualizations faster.

The GTX 470 is equipped with 448 stream processors clocked at 1215 MHz. The GPU is clocked at 607 MHz. The graphics card has 1280 MB of GDDR5 RAM (1674 MHz), which is connected via a 320-bit interface. The memory bandwidth is specified by the manufacturer 133.9 GB / s, the maximum power (TDP) is less than 225 watts.

The model uses Geforce GTX 480 480 stream processors. It comes with 1536 MB of GDDR5 RAM (1848 MHz) and a 384 bit wide memory interface. The data transfer rate of 177.4 GB / s. The GPU operates at a clock speed of 700MHz, the stream processors with 1401 MHz. The maximum power consumption of the GTX 480 is 250 watts.

Nvidia’s DirectX 11 graphics cards are equipped with a mini-HDMI port with HDCP support. It can also be a digital 7.1 audio signal. In addition, both models are equipped with two dual-link DVI ports, enabling the simultaneous control of up to three screens. The price for the GeForce GTX 470 starts at just under 350 €, the GTX 480 it gives off about 480 €.

Originally, the launch of the GF-100 GPUs in November 2009 had been planned before Nvidia him until January 2010 and then shifted to the end of March. Reason for the delay probably was the poor yield of 40-nanometer chips, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer TSMC, which also produces the graphics processors for AMD’s Radeon HD 5000 series.
