Nvidia has unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, its next generation of notebook GPUs: the GeForce 500M Series. The first systems will be available shortly.

The entry form the Geforce GT 520M and the 525M Geforce GT. According to Nvidia, they offer twice the performance of the built-in Intel’s Sandy Bridge CPU solution. In the mainstream versions GeForce 540M GT, GeForce 550M GT and Geforce GT 555M are positioned. The tip of Nivias notebook GPUs are still the versions GeForce GTX 460M, 470M GT, GTX and GTX 480M 485m.

The central feature of the new DirectX 11 GPUs is to support the Optimus technology. The GPU is the graphics CPU-only switched on automatically when it is actually needed for demanding applications such as games. This allows significantly longer battery life.
