“Google has made a mistake. We have let the companies already send a message so that it corrects the map,” said the Costa Rican Vice Chancellor Carlos Roverssi to the daily newspaper La Nacion.
“Both our vote and the map data from INET (Instituto de Estudios Nicaragüense Territorial) does not match with what Google displays,” said Max Lobo, director of the National Geographical Institute in Costa Rica. Map of Microsoft’s Windows Live search engine, however, shows the correct boundary line.
Susana Pavón, Google spokeswoman for Central America, Colombia and the Caribbean, said that still was not clear how the error arose. “We rely on the data in different applications. We still do not know the exact source.”
Commander Edén Pastora had been informed before the start of the mission on Google Maps, rather than relying on official maps. He led his troop on a cleaning mission to shore of the river San Juan, where he built a camp, and hoisted a flag instead of the Nicaraguan-Costa Rican.
Laura Chinchilla, President of Costa Rica, called on their compatriots, however, to rein in their anger, such as CNN reported. Your government is about to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
