Microvision projected images on the retina

display manufacturers Microvision is working on an image display device to project the image directly on the human retina.

The signals are processed according to the company to individually colored pixels and projected through the pupil. As with the television image, the image is built up line by line on the retina. For the observer it should give the impression that he saw in the distance a high-quality video. The so-called Virtual Retinal Display (VRD) can thus dispense with cathode ray tubes or liquid crystal displays.

Still, the VRD exists only as a prototype for industrial and military applications, but Microvision has already developed a concept phone. The integrated VRD is oriented so that the caller is speaking looks directly into the projector. The company is also thinking about the technology in eyewear, helmets and palmtops to install.

So far, the U.S. Army’s main client of the company.
