Linksys introduces a proprietary wireless technology SRX

Cisco subsidiary Linksys has introduced the new SRX technology and two corresponding products. It’s Wireless-G or 802.11g-compliant products, their range and throughput was improved. Linksys also promises to lower susceptibility to interference than standard 802.11g products.

SRX stands for “Speed and Range Extension”. The technology is based on “Multiple In, Multiple Out” (MIMO), which in turn is a component of the IEEE 802.11n standard. MIMO provides multiple transmitters and antennas in a device that increase the transmission power of course. Overall, the range three times and eight times the throughput to be greater – but only if two SRX products communicate with each other. With standard 802.11g products or when using the previous 802.11b technology, it remains at its maximum throughput of 54 or 11 Mbit / s.

Who SRX yet now wants to use already, you need the Wireless-G router WRT54GX for 199 € and the matching PC card WPC54GX for 129 €. The router is an all-in-one device for Internet sharing, 4-Port Switch for Fast Ethernet and Wireless-G Access Point. WPA encryption, SPI firewall and 802.1x authentication and authorization are integrated. In addition, a VPN transmission is possible.

Release Date Linksys sums as the “late spring of 2005″ in the eye.
