Intel is currently following complaints from users who report problems with Solid State Drives (SSD) of the 320 series. According to them, can crash the flash drive. Then it shows only 8 MB of available memory. The question is whether the firmware of the 320-Series may be faulty, appeared in Intel’s official support forum, commencing on 1 June on. Then there came forward to speak several users who also reported crash problems.
“After two days of stress testing systems, with eight of eight 160-gigabyte models of the 320-series per system, 13 SSDs were defective. The majority pointed to the 8-Mbyte-bug,” wrote about “Desiderio” on 8 July. “I hope that Intel will provide a new firmware and fix the problems.”
The error seems to be caused by a temporary interruption of the input voltage of the drive to have. This obviously leads to the fact that the available capacity is reduced to 8 MB. “Intel is aware of the problems and look at it right now,” said an Intel spokesperson told ZDNet. “We take very seriously the problems. Each individual should contact our customer support team.”
Late May, Intel extended the warranty for the 320-series SSDs from three to five years. However, this is only for use in the home, so for 20 GB data written per day. For Enterprise use, especially in areas with high traffic in input and output – for example in data centers – there are some limitations.
