Intel and Nokia are expanding WiMAX Cooperation

Intel and Nokia have announced a close cooperation to bring a variety of WiMax-enabled devices in time for the start of the WiMAX network of Sprint Nextel in the next year on the market.

Both companies announced, particularly on the interoperability between Intel’s WiMax chips and Nokia’s mobile phones to work laptop. Intel will also collaborate with Nokia Siemens Networks to ensure interoperability between Intel chips and networking equipment.

Intel and Nokia are keen advocate of WiMAX. Both companies are major suppliers to the U.S. network providers Sprint Nextel, which is currently building a nationwide WiMax network.

Intel, Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks claims to have already carried out numerous tests in the laboratories of Sprint. The companies hope to gain by early compatibility tests to market faster and problem free.

“Feel Intel, Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks is the responsibility of realizing the full potential of WiMAX user-friendly full. The cooperation between the devices and the network simply has to work seamlessly,” said Raviv Melamed, general manager of Intel’s Mobile Wireless Division. Intel and Motorola are working since 2005 on the interoperability of mobile WiMAX.

Nokia also has the use of Intel’s WiMAX chips for its latest Nseries devices announced. The Internet-enabled mini laptops fit into any pocket and are the first devices to include 2008, which have WiMAX functionality. Next year Intel will also release a notebook technology, both wireless and WiMAX-enabled.
