Infineon (Frankfurt Stock Exchange: IFX) today introduced the FS-VDSL Meeting in Toronto with his VDSL5100 new VDSL chipset. The QAM-based VDSL VDSL solution for all applications is designed, including Ethernet over VDSL and ATM over VDSL. The chipset according to the manufacturer reached a cumulative data rate of more than 100 Mbit / s.
The VDSL5100 was extended to a faster internal data clock and use the benefits of the 0.13-micron process technology. Asymmetric data rates of 70 Mbit / s (downstream) and 40 Mbit / s (upstream) and symmetric data rates of 50 Mbit / s should be possible on a single copper line pair. Of these, in particular, could benefit service providers: A greater range of services with high bandwidth, such as movies, high definition television and games were so possible.
According to Infineon offers the VDSL5100 all necessary functions for a single-port 4-band VDSL connection and supports both Ethernet and ATM VDSL. The chipset use proven technologies such as FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing) and QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) for a power-saving design. The new chipset to work in extended temperature range and sell the next industry standard interfaces SMII and SS-SMII also RMII and MII interfaces according to the 802.3 Ethernet specification.
First samples of VDSL5100 should be available in May 2003. Infineon is offering the new four-band chipset for about $ 15 in large numbers. This is the price of the previous four-band PoVDSL chipsets.
