India agrees provisionally with Research In Motion

India waives the threatened end of October barring the Blackberry services. In a press release issued on Friday by the Indian Ministry of Interior says that the talks with Research In Motion would have resulted in a transitional solution, under an operation of the Blackberry services was possible.

Accordingly, the Indian government granted RIM a “lawful access” to data that is transmitted over the BlackBerry network. A durable solution will RIM to 31 January 2011 to present, the ministry said.

Details of the agreement were not disclosed. India had demanded from RIM and Google and Skype to set up local servers. They should – ensure easy access to encrypted e-mails and other communications – for “reasons of national security.”

India had originally threatened with a shutdown of Blackberry services to end-August. Finally, the lock has been postponed by 60 days at the end of October. During this time the government wanted to examine proposals of the Canadian mobile phone manufacturer, provide the security authorities have access to BlackBerry data provided by companies and organizations to get needed security.

In early October had also declared the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to forego a Blackberry-lock. The services of the company are now “in line with the framework for telecommunications in the UAE”, said the Telecom Regulatory Authority TRA. She also praised RIM’s “positive engagement and good cooperation.”

With regard to the decision of the authorities of the UAE RIM had announced last month that it could not comment on confidential regulatory matters aufträten in a particular country. It will continue to respond as part of its basic principles internationally published in August to lawful requests.
