Westphalia Hall in Dortmund yesterday launched the computer display Hobbytronic ’99. On a total exhibition space of 15 square kilometers highlight 181 exhibitors from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Austria, their hardware and software products, wireless technologies and electronic gadgets. Another focus of the exhibition are new in the online sector and multi-media applications.

Special events and three special shows have been announced: the action “feel the impression” demonstrates to visitors the benefits of a computerized three-dimensional cinema system. The exhibition “phones from people in the contemporary history” brings a “historical” sketch of the brief history of portable phones. Much further into the past, finally, a “multimedia time journey through 5,000 years of information technology” is. Visitors can admire cuneiform tablets from Mesopotamia, calculators and typewriters, and modern multimedia terminals.

The exhibition lasts until 21 February.
