When Cloud Computing Expo 2011, The Open Data Center Alliance (EDCA) announced surprisingly to want to work with The Green Grid (TGG). EDCA will take the measurement and performance standards of the Green Grid and integrate into its own model for the use of cloud computing. P> p>
The Open Data Center Alliance was founded a year ago, to formulate requirements for cloud computing from the user perspective on the IT industry and strong demand. One of the key members include major corporations such as BMW, Lockheed Martin, Marriott, UBS, AT & T, Verizon, China Unicom, German Telekom and German Post DHL. The 300 members represent an IT purchasing volume of over $ 100 billion annually. The Green Grid is again a combination of super computer and chip manufacturers, founded in 2007 by AMD, HP, IBM and Sun with the aim to further reduce power consumption in data centers. P>
Funded by the U.S. EPA, Green Grid has been developed vendor-neutral standards, measurement methods and processes. The organization also announced metrics that capture the basic energy consumption also other areas such as computing efficiency and the efficiency of water use. She is so on the way to complete metrics that will allow it to develop more efficient and operate data centers. P>
The EDCA can not drive to develop their own standards. Instead, she wants to participate in the further work of TGG. The Open Data Center Alliance it represents the interests of those who buy the equipment for data centers or take their services, compared to a consortium of manufacturers. The two organizations announced that they want with their first common metrics to determine the CO2 footprint of data centers. P>
