Google shows Android Motorola Tablet with Maps 3.0 and 5.0

Andy Rubin, Google’s vice president for engineering, has on the event D: Dive Into Mobile in San Francisco not only the Nexus S with Android presented 2.3 Gingerbread, but also the prototype shown a Motorola-tablets, on which an early version of Android 3.0 Honeycomb (honeycomb) ran. The device will hit the market next year, said Rubin.

The tablet should be equipped with a dual-core chip from Nvidia and a video chat feature. In contrast to previous versions of the Android Honeycomb is according to Google for use on tablets. It provides, for example, adapted to this class of device surface, but still contains the application shortcuts and widgets.

Apps should be able to use the phone as compared to a much larger display, by providing each one view for mobile phones and tablets. Rubin demonstrated this in a two-column Gmail app, which on the left side of each e-mail lists and to the right displays the reading area.

In addition, Rubin was version 5.0 of Google Maps for Android, which will be released “within days”. The next edition of the map software brings lots of improvements: By switching to vector graphics is much smoother scrolling and zooming vonstatten than before. The mobile version also integrates the well-known variant of the Web 3D building models. With new two-finger gestures can rotate and tilt the map.

According to Engadget Android smartphones support the following all the new features of Google Maps 5.0: HTC, HTC Droid, Droid, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, Evo, Nexus S and G2 Google.
