Microsoft founder Bill Gates
has described the opening speech at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) the Group’s future in glowing colors. Never mind that the company is in danger of being broken down as a consequence of the antitrust suit, but only wonderful visions of the future of the Windows product group came from the lips of Gates. He said: “The best is yet.”
The chief software engineer from Redmond introduced the new trends on the Microsoft (Frankfurt Stock Exchange: MSF) is: voice chats over the Internet, for example, or the digital camera that will sooner or later be part of the PC. Gates also announced that, (formerly Millennium) with the new consumer operating system Windows Me boot time to 25 seconds to. As a comparison, the Sony Playstation times called Gates with 33 seconds and the “iMac” with 70 seconds. “We could let the boot process with an Apple indeed show now, but that would take too long,” Gates said to the laughter of the audience.
Gates did not see the new Internet-enabled handheld devices as a direct threat to the PC market: “They all are based on PC architecture.”
