Researchers from the Munich-based Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft have developed a working robot that can be used on any modern standing-sitting job in the manufacturing industry. The pi4-workerbot has similar proportions as a human being, has three cameras and two arms. He is part of the EU-funded project PISA. Its goal is to make the industrial mass production with the help of robots flexible. P> p>
A 3D camera captures the environment in the front of the robot. With the two other cameras can measure objects or analyze different surfaces. P>
For example, the robot detects reflections on the basis of whether the chromium layer was deposited on a flawless piece of work. “If you use two different cameras, it can check with another aspect of the left eye than the right,” Matthias Krinke, Managing Director explains pi4 of Robotics, which will bring the workerbot on the market. The two arms allow “new kinds of movements”, Dragoljub Surdilovic, says Labour group leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) in Berlin. The robot is thus able to reach out to a work piece from one hand to another – for example to inspect complex parts built from all angles. P>

Surdilovics group worked out of control. “It was a challenge, to enable the interaction. This requires additional sensors.” If you properly adjusting the gripping force, the robot is able to be an egg in your hand without breaking it. The researchers have also provided him with a simple facial expressions: Does the working smoothly, the workerbot smiles contentedly. He looks bored, he is waiting for work, and the production manager knows that he can expedite the production process. P>
