Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has joined the fundraising initiative The Giving Pledge. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have brought it to life. She is also supported by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, Paul Allen, George Lucas and David Rockefeller.
Zuckerberg has committed, according to Business Wire to donate at least half of his fortune to charity. The value of his company is estimated at around 40 billion dollars – money that certainly is not on sugar’s accounts.
“People often wait for the donations until they have built a solid career,” said Zuckerberg. “But why should we wait, when there is so much to do?” A new generation of young business people see their businesses flourish. “This is a great opportunity, the company earlier in life to give something back and to see the effect of our efforts.”
Those who join The Giving Pledge, signing a contract, but makes a “moral agreement” at least half of its assets to donate to charity. The members are not bound to specific organizations or purposes.
