Exactly two weeks after the attack of the ILOVEYOU worm, a new variant of the virus has crippled several networks. The experts warn of a VB script that is a mail with the subject line beginning with “FW:” is sent.
The new variant is spreading more slowly than the original Lovebug virus, but depends much more damage to the infected computer: “A significant percentage of these computers is no longer usable,” said Vincent Weafer Manager Symantec. The virus puts all files in all folders of an affected computer to 0 bytes.
The tricky at the new worm: He looks out on the harddisk of an infected computer and sends itself a file name as a script with this name. For example, the virus finds a file named “Rechnung.doc” so planted it may be continued at all in the Outlook address book on the infected computer’s stored e-mail addresses as an attachment named “Rechnung.doc.vbs”.
