Dell inaugurates HPC Research Center in Cambridge

Dell and the British University of Cambridge have now the “Dell / Cambridge High Performance Computing Solution Centre” was opened. It aims to develop simple and cost-effective HPC solutions for both academic and commercial purposes.

The traditional university has long been active in the field of HPC and HPC offers, among other services through a cloud-computing model. The cluster there use about 400 users spread across 70 research groups in fields such as chemistry, physics, biology, biomedicine, clinical medicine and social sciences are active.

Under the direction of Paul Calleja, director of HPC service at the University of Cambridge, the university team has dealt with Dell, with the design, implementation and operation of high performance computing solutions. In addition, specially designed to meet the needs of researchers coordinated HPC solution stacks, optimized and tested for production operation. These stacks are then benefit Dell customers.

The specialties of the UK researchers are Lustre-based file systems, storage design, implementation and operation, but also GPU cluster and scientific visualization. Expertise they have, according to Dell in application optimization and benchmarking, MPI analysis, resource management and HPC-cloud-provisioned.
