Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO) Edward Kozel is the German Telekom left end of the year. As the Handelsblatt reported, citing to the business community, the 56-year-old has asked the Supervisory Board need to disband his current contract early in 2015. The Panel will on 15 December to decide.

The main tasks of the engineering board will now take over CEO René Obermann. A successor was not initially sought, reports the Handelsblatt. The Telekom wanted to demand not comment on the particulars.

Kozel was encountered only in May 2010 on the Deutsche Telekom and was considered a beacon of hope. He had a reputation of being a visionary and doer. Obermann called him a “heavy weight of the industry.” But the California native apparently could not bring his talents at Deutsche Telekom.

It has CEO Obermann numerous construction sites, such as the declining landline business and the impending collapse of the sale of U.S. subsidiary T-Mobile USA. So far, the Bonn group has responded with savings and can reduce the losses. But long term this is likely not a viable strategy.

To develop such Kozel could contribute with his expertise. As the Handelsblatt reported, but he could not prevail against rigidities and lengthy decision-making processes. First, have reacted cynically Kozel, later resigned. Now he apparently drew the consequences.

Before joining Telecom Kozel served on the boards of Cisco Systems operates. He came to Cisco in 1989 and worked there for twelve years in senior positions, including five years as Technical Director (CTO). During this period he was responsible for more than 20 acquisitions and 25 minority investments. He was also on the boards of directors of Yahoo and Reuters and has worked for Red Hat, and Tibco Software.
