BT is to bring Sega’s Dreamcast into the net

British Telecom (BT) is to bring as a “preferred provider” Sega’s new 128-bit Dreamcast game console in Europe into the net. This is the British telecommunications company to set up a registration free internet access. The service is on BT and its European partners to launch 23rd September in Germany, France, Italy and Spain are established. Other European countries will follow later.

For Dreamcast (www.dreamcast.com/e3/dream.html) is trading to the “first game console that is online-enabled,” advertises Sega. It is thus possible to unite with thousands of gamers around the world. But also send e-mails, chat or surf the web you can with the new Sega console, which comes with a built-in 33.6k modem and Internet browser.

Contrary to the popular game console by Nintendo (Nintendo 64) and Sony (Playstation) Dreamcast works not with a proprietary operating system, but uses Microsoft’s Windows CE.

Sega’s new console will cost 499 marks in Germany.
