The UK National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) today arrested twelve persons who are suspected of being members of a phishing gang. The six men and six women, who come from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine are said to have spied on the bank account data from computer users. The fraudulent acquisition of bank data on the Internet is also known as ‘phishing’, a term which is composed of ‘Password’ and ‘Fishing’. P>
According to British media reports, the police have seized computers, passwords, check books, bank cards and large amounts of cocaine at several addresses in London and Ramsgate in Kent. P>
“We believe that this course has transferred hundreds of thousands of British pounds to Russia,”Detective Superintendent Mick Deats says, Deputy Head at the NHTCU in USA. P>
“Organized criminals seek all over the world, the money from Internet users to steal online account,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos. “Unfortunately, e-mail users are such cheaters quickly to victims. For e-mails that invite people into revealing personal banking information, users should be extremely wary. Even if the site that they should attend to, like a true online Bank looks like or they know the bank name stuck, mostly cybercriminals behind it. “ P>
Phishing attacks recently designed primarily as a fake e-mails fromknown banks like Wells Fargo, Nationwide, NatWest, Barclays, Westpac and Halifax. P>
