Adobe Photoshop CS4

has updated to version 11.0.1 on Friday. The update fills a critical-rated vulnerability in Photoshop CS4 11.0.0, which consists of both Windows and Mac OS X.

According to a security warning from the company, the update corrects an error in handling files in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF). An attacker could exploit the vulnerability via a specially crafted TIFF image, and take control over an unpatched system. However, the user with a malicious TIFF file should open with the vulnerable version of Photoshop.

The software vendor does not recommend that you install the patch as soon as possible. Affected customers can download the fix on the update feature of Photoshop or Adobe.com for Windows and Mac OS X.

Adobe points out that the vulnerability exists in Photoshop CS5. The latest version of the design software collection Creative Suite 5 (CS5), which also includes Photoshop CS5, was not delivered until late last week.
